Westside Free Store Ministries (WFSM) serves thousands of people in the Hilltop area each year, providing clothing, small household items, diapers, and hygiene items. On Saturdays, members of the community are served a hot lunch prepared by volunteers.
Whenever school is out, the demand for Saturday lunchtime meals traditionally increases. At the same time, help from many of the partner churches and organizations that prepare and serve the Saturday meals decreases as schedules shift and summer vacations take place.
“I have 5 children and now that school is out, feeding them is a hardship. I like the fact that there is a meal on Saturdays.” — Kelly Walker, Client
This summer, there are several weekends without an assigned organization to provide the meal. To address this challenge, WFSM has partnered with volunteers to help prepare the meals in advance of the weekend. Your support of this Better Together project will help clear the last hurdle, establishing proper refrigeration to keep meals cold during the hot summer months.
“Different churches volunteer to fix a meal every Saturday for the many people who come through our doors. Sometimes that is the only meal our clients will enjoy that day.” –Dianne Krebs, Volunteer
Westside Free Store Ministries needs a commercial refrigerator to effectively prepare and store meals. With this addition, WFSM will also be in a position to accept food donations year round, including produce from local gardens.
Please help us reach our goal of $4,500! There are several weekends this summer without an assigned organization to prepare the meals for our community members. We have partnered with volunteers to help prepare the meals in advance of the weekend, but your support of this Better Together project will help clear the last hurdle: establishing proper refrigeration to keep meals cold and ready to serve every Saturday during the hot summer months!
