WFSM Learning Extension Center Application for High School students
Hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:30 am to 3pm.
Our hope is that by providing a space for students to complete school work along with other peers present will increase the feeling of being connected to school and increase motivation to complete their academics.
WFSM will attempt to identify the particular needs of each student for their online academic experience and respond effectively to those needs as much as possible. Core elements include:
· Meeting with family/student prior to initiating program, working with them to determine mandated class schedules or education goals, family barriers, commitment level and self-identified primary need.
· Determine a schedule for the student’s attendance at the LEC and resources that will be needed while at the LEC.
· Provide a meal and nutritious snacks on site.
Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays 11:30 am to 3 pm and Thursdays 11:30 am to 3 pm.
On-site Student Support Volunteers will oversee student check-in; providing technology support as needed (connecting devices to Wi-Fi, connecting to school sites); help prepare and distribute meals; ensure safety regulations and social distancing requirements are enforced at all times; help guide to resources for homework assistance; clean area at end of session; oversee and promote positive interactions on site among students and volunteers; manage issues and conflicts as they arise; communicate regularly with site coordinator.
